High Potency Dual-Extracted Lion's Mane Mushroom Powder in Australia

Dr. Noel's Lion's Mane Concentrated Powder is made using a premium 8:1 dual-extracted mushroom powder, uniquely formulated for maximum potency. Our advanced extraction process uses boiling water and alcohol, followed by state-of-the-art spray-drying technology to separate the liquid and active ingredients, ensuring the highest purity in mushroom extract powder. We stand out in the market as the only product created through this sophisticated process.

Our mushroom powders are:

  • Derived from 100% pure mushroom fruiting bodies, which are rich in polysaccharides and beta-glucans made highly bioavailable through our unique extraction methods.
  • Independent laboratory tests confirm that our beta-glucans ratio is four times higher than the average mushroom powders available in the market.

Say goodbye to brain fog and sharpen your mental clarity. Lion’s mane mushroom (Hericium erinaceus) is a nootropic or ‘smart’ mushroom that naturally boosts your cognitive function, memory and focus by stimulating brain cells' growth and restoring damaged nerves. The secret ingredient is Hericenones, found only in Lion’s Mane. Lion’s Mane is also a rich source of polysaccharides, beta-glucans and erinacines that offer strong digestive protection from many ailments.

🔎 Frequently Asked Questions

Extraction is important

How is Dr Noel's Lion's Mane Mushroom Powder made?

Our Lion's Mane Mushroom Powder is made using a dual-extraction process to ensure maximum potency and bioavailability. This process involves extracting both water-soluble and alcohol-soluble compounds from the mushrooms.

What are the benefits of using an extract vs. a non-extract in terms of bioavailability?

Extracts are more bioavailable than non-extracts because they concentrate the active compounds, making them easier for the body to absorb and utilise. Non-extracts may contain a pulverised powder of the whole mushroom, but the beneficial compounds are less concentrated, potentially requiring higher doses to achieve the same effect.

Dual extraction combines both water and alcohol extraction methods to capture a wider range of beneficial compounds from the mushroom.

This ensures that both water-soluble and alcohol-soluble compounds, maximising the health benefits of Lion's Mane Mushroom Powder. We utilise this extraction method to deliver the best results.

Hot water extraction can isolate the Beta-Glucans but cannot isolate the NGF-inducing compounds: Hericenones, Erinacines and Sterols. Alcohol extraction can isolate these NGF-inducing compounds.

How do extraction ratios work with Lion’s Mane mushroom powders?

The extraction ratio only refers to the quantity of raw material consumed in the production of the completed extract eg. 10:1 ratio of 1kg of Lion’s Mane extract would take 10kgs of raw material to make 1kg of extract. This can often mislead consumers and be used as a marketing label.

If you are buying a Lion’s Mane extract powder, understand that higher extraction ratios after a certain point offer no additional benefits and may even cause harm to the extract’s quality. The ideal Lion’s Mane Mushroom extracts will have an 8:1 extraction ratio or less, although most Lion’s Mane extracts marketed as 10:1. Extraction ratios do not imply that an extract is x times more concentrated than a 1:1 extract. This isn’t correct. The potency of an extract is not measured by an extraction ratio, rather determined by the standardisation (percentage of bioactive compounds present) eg. beta-glucans.

Which Lion’s Mane mushroom species is the most beneficial?

Hericium erinaceus is widely regarded as the most beneficial and extensively validated species of Lion's Mane mushroom. This species has been the focus of numerous studies, highlighting its significant health benefits, particularly in cognitive and neurological health. Research has shown that Hericium erinaceus stimulates the synthesis of Nerve Growth Factor (NGF), which is crucial for the growth, maintenance, and survival of neurons. This stimulation has been linked to enhanced cognitive functions, improved memory, and learning capabilities, especially in elderly individuals with mild cognitive impairment. Additionally, its neuroprotective properties suggest potential benefits in preventing and managing neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.

Beyond cognitive health, Hericium erinaceus offers various other health benefits. It has immunomodulatory effects, boosting the activity of immune cells like macrophages and natural killer cells, and possesses anti-inflammatory properties that can reduce systemic inflammation, potentially benefiting conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis. Moreover, it supports gastrointestinal health by protecting the gastric mucosa and aiding in the management of gastric ulcers and other gastrointestinal issues. The extensive research, including several clinical trials, underscores the efficacy and safety of Hericium erinaceus, making it a preferred choice for those seeking to enhance cognitive function, support immune health, and protect against neurodegenerative diseases.

For maximum health benefits, make sure the product specifies on the label that it indeed contains Hericium erinaceus.

FRUITING BODIES VS MYCELIUM

Why do people prefer fruiting bodies over mycelium?

There is ongoing discourse between growers and producers about which is more beneficial – the fruiting body or the mycelium.
The general consensus is that a high quality Lion’s Mane product in Australia should be made from the whole fruiting body and if there is mycelium included, that is an added bonus.

However, this does not mean mycelium-only products are all bad. Lion’s Mane mycelium contains quantities of erinacines which can be purified via dual extraction.

What we do suggest however is to be cognisant of myceliated grain products that contain high amounts of grain or subtrate filler. While they are still beneficial, more often than not, the product will need to be consumed at higher doses than pure fruiting-body products.

Fruiting Body Must Be The Primary Component: Dr Noel’s Lion’s Mane Powder is made specifically only of the mushroom fruiting body. The fruiting body contains high amounts beta-glucans, and Hericenones which improves cognitive function, immunity and gut health.

What is NGF and BDNF in Lion’s Mane?

Lion’s Mane (Hericium erinaceus) has the ability to activate the secretion of Nerve Growth Factor (NGF) and Brain-Derived Neurotropic Factor (BDNF) directly in the brain.

This has a positive effect on the brain cells improving neurogenesis, cognition, memory, mood and aging.

This is the core reason why Lion’s Mane is so popular and considered a ‘brain boosting’ supplement. The fruiting body of the mushroom contains Hericenones and Beta-Glucans.

Is mycelium still beneficial?

Yes, but ideally if the product in question contains pure mycelium that is extracted. Erinacine A can be purified from pure mycelium via a dual-extraction process.

The issue is that many mushroom products contain mycelium substrate or "grain-cake" as some mycologists call it.

Some brands advertise mycelium because it is cheaper and faster to produce compared to the fruiting body. However, the fruiting body of the mushroom contains a higher concentration of beneficial compounds like beta-glucans and hericenones.

Products where the primary component is mycelium, mycelium substrate, mycelial biomass, myceliated brown rice, or any other grains are often considered lower quality in comparison because of the substate attached to it. If mycelium is in the product, ideally the mycelium should be dual extracted so Erinacine A becomes more bioavailable.

History

Australian grown Lion’s Mane vs Chinese grown?

As an Australian founded, owned, and operated business we love local produce. However, people are unaware that China is the birthplace of the medicinal mushrooms and has been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for thousands of years. It predates Western medicine and natural supplements, long before medicinal mushroom powders made it to Australian shelves and used as dietary supplements in Western Cultures.

There is frequent discussion about the quality of health foods and supplements coming from China. Yes, some main cities of China have high rates of air pollution which is not ideal for soil quality, but this does not mean Chinese medicinal mushroom products are low quality. In fact, it is quite the opposite. The anti-Chinese sentiment around medicinal mushrooms is quite contradictory to its medicinal historical Chinese roots. Unfortunately, this sentiment is a marketing ploy for some opportunistic brands to promote cheaper, inferior, locally grown products that can result in less bioavailability, impacting the reduction of the health benefits that medicinal mushrooms can truly offer.

China is the largest producer of organic medicinal mushrooms in the world. The highest quality medicinal mushrooms are grown in the rural mountain areas of China – away from polluted areas. This is where our organic Lion’s Mane mushrooms are grown.

With over 30 years of research and usage, our organic farm and lab in rural China has some of the most potent medicinal mushroom products in the global market, and also has one of the most sophisticated extraction labs in the world.

What are the benefits of Dr Noel’s Lion's Mane Mushroom being Dao Di?

Our Lion's Mane Mushroom are Dao Di (also known as Di Dao or Di Tao in the Western world) which signifies that it is grown in its authentic and traditional environment, ensuring maximum potency and efficacy.

The term Dao Di lacks a perfect English translation but combines 'Dao,' originally used for districts in ancient China, and 'Di,' relating to soil and geography, roughly translating to geo-authentic.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Dao Di herbs are celebrated for their superior quality and therapeutic effects. Historically, specific regions were recognized for producing the best medicinal herbs due to unique environmental conditions, traditional cultivation methods, and historical legacy.

Factors that contribute to Dao Di status include

  1. Geographical Origin
The herb must be grown in a region with the ideal soil, climate, and altitude.
  2. Traditional Cultivation
Adherence to ancient methods of planting, harvesting, and processing.
  3. Purity and Potency
Herbs are tested for their active compounds to ensure they meet the highest standards.

Using Dao Di Lion's Mane Mushroom ensures you are receiving a product that is authentic, potent, and of the highest quality, reflecting centuries of Chinese medicinal heritage.
